Lakers Games

So, we made it to the playoffs! That in itself is a miracle.. maybe we didn't have a lot of stamina, but in the last two months, I have seen so much more fan support for the Thunder team.. and for Oklahoma City!

In the beginning of the season, the fans were there to have fun.. now they come to actually support their team and cheer them on to victory!

All in all, the experience has been a positive one for me.. it definitely wasn't what I was expecting, but I got to see free games, meet new people, and develop some awesome friendships with coworkers and fans alike! Not to mention, I am partially responsible for all of the Thunder car flags around Oklahoma City!

Despite not being offered a full-time position at the end of the internship season, I am satisfied in knowing I learned more about working as a team, and I can always say I was there for the first playoff game in the history of the Oklahoma City Thunder!

Observing Tonight's Game.. From the Front Section

My friend Aaron and I are going to the Thunder game tonight.. as guests! For once, we get to sit in really good seats right next to the Club entrance and watch the game. This will be the first game that I can actually watch all the way from start to finish, and I cannot wait!

The only down side is that an old flame has season tickets directly across from our seats.. but maybe that could turn into a good thing. A little jealousy always makes them come back for more!

So, it appears all of my hard work is starting to pay off. Who knows, maybe I'll be the one to cheer the team to victory tonight.. I can't wait!

Rumble's Birthday

So, this Sunday I was scheduled to be the do-it-all girl. You know, the one who comes in at the earliest shift and also gets to be the last one out at the end of the night.

When I say I did it all, do take this literally. I put the player banners and welcome tiles up, prepared the game night program boxes, took care of the Loud City kid's booth once the game started (complete with blue hair, tattoos and poster board), and stayed after the game to put up the above-mentioned banners and tiles.

Overall, it was a long night. On the positive side, I work with an amazing group of people at the Cox Center that always give me a friendly greeting and some easygoing conversation. The night wasn't too bad... it was Rumble's birthday, after all!!

Timberwolves Game

Last night, I came to cover the end of Ben Sullivan's shift. He was scheduled to work from 1 to 8 p.m. but needed to leave early to drive to Tulsa. Being the wonderful employee that I am, I offered to come in until 9 to help with the game despite having recovered from the flu all week long.
I was at station 212 doing facial tattoos and blue hair dye for the children when I realized that somebody had scheduled me to work from 6 to 10 without verifying with me first. I was upset, but I told Jasmine I would be willing to stay if she needed me. Sensing my irritation at not being asked, she said if I could stay until 9 she would appreciate it.
The original plan was to get off at 8 and watch the game with my new love interest, so it turned out to be a good thing that I worked until 9 because the boy never called or texted me. At the end of my shift, I ignored a drunk text from a friend at the game and went directly home to my loving dog and family. Overall, a good night. Thunder beat the Timberwolves, and my love life went from being strangely positive back to normal.
Oh, the fun of being a Thunder intern! There's nothing better than putting facial tattoos on children ages 3 to 12...

Last week of January

Oh, a week in the life of a Thunder intern... I was unfortunately snowed in and couldn't make it to one game this week.. of which only five of us interns actually made it in to help out. From what I hear, it was a bad game to miss because of the free beanie hats giveaway that night.

On Wednesday, I worked the doors and then went home. Working the doors means that I go to one of the entrance areas (called the Northeast doors and Northwest doors) and hand out game programs, which are free programs about the game, to the guests/fans. On this night, I worked at the busiest doors, the one by the Will Call desk. Unfortunately, I can never recall which entrance is which, so I just rely on the pointing of fingers and yelling of voices to lead me in the right direction, but if I am guessing correctly, I was at the Northwest doors that night.

Last night, I was at the other side entrance. Before that, I helped set up balloons at the designated stations for the kiddos, and I also was in charge of stocking up the entrance tables with signs, banners, and game night programs for the guests. Did I mention I met a rather attractive boy on my way inside the building? His name was Josh, and he was quite the looker. He is a personal assistant for one of the Thunder's co-owners.

After setting up and prior to clocking out for the night, I went to section 306 and 322 to relieve my coworkers for a "quick break." The boy took a decent break. My female friend, on the other hand, disappeared on me for an hour. I got an extra hour of pay though, so I didn't say anything!

On my way to clock out, I ran into a friend that I have met during my time with the Thunder... he invited me to watch the game with him, so I returned after clocking out to watch third quarter of the game. Not a bad night overall. I got a date, some money for my efforts, and I met some nice people.

Being the Intern

My job is pretty simple. It's definitely not what I was expecting it to be. Basically, I do all the little things that make the Thunder world go around.
For instance, the marketing group needs someone at the Northwest and Northeast entrance doors to hand out game night programs. So, who do they call? Promo crew (that's me).
Other times, Old No. 7 wants help handing out programs. Who do they call? Yep, you guessed it. Me again.
Still other times (and this is a rare treat!), the other internship program asks us to help with the Rumble Club. This entails putting tattoos and stickers on children of all ages (to include intoxicated adults) and "assisting clients" with signs. In other words, I'm the person who stocks the markers and paper.
Despite the exciting world of the intern, there are still a few more perks to the job.
Number one, they pay us!!!
Number two, sometimes we get free tickets!
Number three, we get our foot in the door for other internships and job openings!!!!!
Last but certainly not least, I get college credit for handing out programs and babysitting the kiddos at Thunder games!!
So, who cares if this is not shaping up to be what I expected - suits and ties, sales team, helping with the camera operations - it is still a foot in the door, and a girl has got to start somewhere.
